60/40 custody is one option available when deciding the custody of your child. You want to make sure you research all the options available so you are not blindsided by the other parent or court. Here are two of the most popular schedule options with 60/40 custody.

Every Weekend Schedule

The every weekend custody schedule is very popular if you and the other parent both want to spend time with your child each week but do not want exchanges during the week. With this schedule, one parent has the child the four weeknights and the other parent has your child the three weekend nights.

This schedule is common among parent who live further apart, have difficult work or school schedules, or determine it is best for your child to not switch during the week. Some people find this schedule to work very well for all parties involved.

The biggest problem with this schedule, is one parent has the child every weekend. While it sounds good to split the child equally, it can also be difficult to schedule family activities. Some parents who have followed this schedule have expressed frustration with feeling like one parent gets to have all the fun on the weekend.

This is a great schedule if it fits you, the other parent, and your child's lives. There is not right or wrong schedule. It is all about finding what works for your unique situation.

4-3 Schedule

The 4-3 custody schedule is very similar to the every weekend schedule. They are the same in the fact that one parent has your child four nights and the other has the child three nights. The difference is the schedule does not necessarily involve one parent having every weekend.

This schedule can be used for those who have 60/40 custody but has the child exchanging homes during the week. The great thing about this schedule is you can adjust the days so one parent has the child during the week one week and then the following weekend.

The biggest issue with this schedule is all the changing. Depending on how you set it up, there may be many different exchanges at multiple different times. This can be hard on you and your child. Again, follow the schedule that works the best for your unique situation. There is no right or wrong choice.
